Kralupy nad Vltavou
On September 1, 2008 TEAM missionaries Jeff and Lisa Griffith began a ministry partnership with the Cirkev Bratrska Church in Prague 1 in order to develop the Kralupy preaching station into an independent church. On November 22, 2008 the Cirkev Bratrska preaching station in Kralupy nad Vltavou will celebrate 80 years as a preaching station of the Cirkev Bratrska Church in Prague
Between 1999 and 2007, Karel and Jitka Faber served the Prague 1 church in Kralupy; Karel worked as the vicar of the preaching station. The Fabers ministered to high school and college students, laying a foundation from which the Griffiths and others are building.
“Knowing that our ministry was drawing to a close in Prague 13, we began looking for another ministry opportunity in or near Prague. Having previously worked with Karel and Jitka Faber at a few English camps and Coffee House ministries, Kralupy kept rising to the top of list,” says Jeff Griffith. “Who we minister with is more important than where we serve and the thought of working with Karel and Jitka in Kralupy excited us.”
But in 2007, the Fabers were transferred to another ministry in Vsetin, a town near the Slovak border. In the meantime the Griffiths had begun talks with Petr Grulich, the pastor of the mother church in Prague 1, about ministry in Kralupy. It took just two meetings to convince both Petr and Jeff that the Lord had brought the Griffiths in contact with the Prague 1 church as an answer to the prayers of the Prague 1 congregation. “We are excited about the ministry in Kralupy. Petr Grulich and Pavel Plchot, the pastors of the mother church, are men of wisdom and a joy to serve beside. I’ve been working with the Kralupy ministry team since the 2007 English camp held in August 2007. It has been a positive experience. The Kralupy believers have a good reputation of caring for those who visit the small congregation and we have personally benefited from their expressions of love,” says Jeff Griffith
The Griffiths anticipate ministering in Kralupy for about two years before going on home assignment. It is their hope and prayer that during that time the Kralupy preaching station will develop to the place where it can carry on independently while they are on home assignment.
Kralupy is located 30 km (about 19 miles) north of Prague on the Modau River. It an industrial town with a population of 17,091. Many residents commute 30 minutes to work in Prague.
