Conversion:
I first believed in Jesus when I was five years old. I was blessed to grow up In a Christian family and in a church that helped me grow and learn about what it means to live as a follower of Jesus.
Call:
After high school I went to Bowling Green State University to study physical therapy. Right away I became involved in working with international students through an organization called World Student Association. I also joined a Christian group called Active Christians Today. My sophomore year God showed me that He had a different plan for my life - He wanted me to be a missionary! I knew that this was one of the biggest decisions I had ever made and that it could dramatically change what my future looked like. I decided that God knew better than I did why He made me and how He could best use me. I knew I could trust Him completely with my life, my story. That began an amazing journey that is new and exciting everyday!
Ministry:
After much prayer and graduating from BG with a degree in Psychology, I joined a Campus Crusade mission team to Bulgaria for one year. When I joined I told them to put me on a team that needed me and when I got my assignment, I had to look on a map to find where Bulgaria was. I knew almost nothing about Eastern Europe- there was a lot to learn! During that year I learned how to share my faith with students who have little or no Christian background and how to talk with students when they apologetic and philosophical questions about God, Jesus, and “religion”. After that year I spent a year in Northwest Haiti working with a small church mission. These first two years as a “missionary” were very different experiences but both were necessary to prepare me for what was next. The next 5 years I spent in Ohio as a “native missionary”. For two years I taught kindergarten and 1st grade at an inner city charter school and worked with the children at the church I grew up in. I then accepted a children’s ministry position at Ginghamsburg Church. My three years on staff were a time of learning and more preparation for what I will be doing here in Czech. I went with the first Ginghamsburg team to Czech to help Tom and Elaine Sampley (also from Ginghamsburg) with their Family English Camp. During my second trip God showed me that the Czech was what He had been preparing me for.
I know that God has a plan for me in the Czech Republic. I’m looking forward to learning more about the people, culture, and land that is now my new home.
